You can add amber as a plug-in or extension for your browser. This allows you to open amber in parallel with any website. In the following, you can find out how to install the plugin depending on your browser and also get information about additional features.

1. Preparing for installation in Microsoft Edge

Before installing in Microsoft Edge, you must first ensure that the appropriate settings are configured in the Microsoft Edge browser so that you can also access the amber Chrome plug-in via this browser.

You can see how this works in the following instructions with a series of images:

1. Click on the three dots in the top right-hand corner of your Edge browser and select Extensions:

2. Then click on Manage extensions in the small pop-up window:

3. Make sure that the Allow extensions from other stores.-option on the left-hand side of the screen is switched on. Now you can also add plug-ins from the Chrome Web Store to your Microsoft Edge browser. Then click on Chrome Web Store further to the right of the screen. The Chrome Web Store will then open in your Microsoft Edge browser:

2. Installation in Google Chrome & Microsoft Edge

Once you have completed the default settings in Microsoft Edge, the installation process in the Chrome Web Store is the same for both browsers.
Simply click on the link at the top of this help page to go directly to the amberSearch extension in the Chrome Web Store.
There, you can install the plug-in with just two clicks and start using it right away.

3. Pin & use plug-in

Once the plug-in has been added, you can pin it to your browser bar at the top.

To do this, click on the extensions icon at the top of your browser and then on the pushpin icon next to amberSearch. The amber logo will now remain visible and be easier to access.

From now on, the amberSearch side panel can be opened in both browsers either by clicking on the icon at the top or by pressing Alt + S. You must then log in once with your account.

4. Functions of the extension

a) Start an amber search via the browser search bar

As soon as the extension has been added, a message will appear informing you of a new function that is now available through the plug-in:

This means that from now on, you can type ‘as’ into the search bar at the top of your browser and then press TAB (space bar). The usual search engine logo will then be replaced by the amber logo. When you enter a search term, amber will open automatically and search for results related to your query.

b) Look up words on any web page with amber

You can select one or more words on any website and then click on them with the right mouse button. This will open a small menu in which you will find amberSearch. Below this you can select how you would like to use amber for your selected term.
